PTA Committees:

Box Tops:
Encourage families to participate in the virtual Box Tops program by downloading the app and scanning receipts.  This can be done through sending home fliers through backpacks, and promoting the program on the website and social media.

Cultural Arts:
Cultural Arts schedules the PTA sponsored assemblies for the school year. Most of the work is in the fall and includes reviewing companies and price evaluations. Most assemblies can easily be booked through email but may require phone calls to schedule and confirm and review details. For each assembly, a certificate of insurance must be obtained. Assemblies can be coordinated with the school monthly themes. You must work with the schedules of both schools to see what is best. There is a Cultural Arts budget.A PTA representative must be present at all assemblies.

Spirit Wear:
Coordinate the design of new Spirit Wear items each fall.  Create and distribute order forms through backpacks and email/ website/ Facebook.  Assist with sorting and preparing orders shipped to the school for distribution to the students via. backpacks.

Scholarships:
Get list of 6th grade graduates of LBI school who are now graduating Southern.  Email list to Cheryl Barrett at Southern and she will send you the list of students who have applied for LBI PTA scholarship. Select recipients for both scholarships both male and female. Keep this info confidential.  Attend Scholarship breakfast. Provide selections to Cheryl Barrett at SRHS. Print postcards for students and present to them at the ceremony at SRHS. Have treasurer print checks for each student and mail to SRHS and they will distribute once proof of tuition is provided.

Sponsorship:
Contact local businesses regarding sponsorship opportunities.  Ensure the sponsors are recognized on the PTA website and at large PTA events, like the annual auction.

PTA Membership Chair:

  1. Coordinate and direct activities of the membership programs.

  2. Plan and conduct membership enrollment efforts.

  3. Man the table for “Back to School Night” and other PTA events. Have a supply of membership forms so parents and teachers can fill them out and submit to you along with their dues.

  4. In November, follow-up with all parents and teachers who are not PTA Members via inter-office mail.

  5. Be responsible for the distribution of, and the accounting for, all membership cards.

  6. Maintain accurate membership records.

Teacher Appreciation:
Distribution of small items at Back to School and December holidays, and coordinating “Teacher Appreciation Week” in May with breakfast and lunch as well as “gifts” for the teachers all week.

Field Day:
Coordinate design of Field Day t-shirts with PE teachers. Send home order forms for t-shirts. Collect and collate all order forms to enable order and purchase of t-shirts by grade.

Coordinate volunteers to come in for Field Day and help at stations.  Purchase popsicles and/or other supplies for theme and students.

Room Parent:

As a room parent, you are the liaison between the teacher and other parents in your student’s classroom.

The room parents for each grade will help to collect donations for the class basket at our annual auction in the fall and to create the display for the auction.   The auction committee will provide guidance and assistance where needed.

You may also be requested to find chaperones for school field trips and events such as Read Across America. The best policy is to offer the position to all families at the same time (usually via flyer sent home in students’ backpacks – with a deadline).  If more people volunteer than are needed, select out of a hat and give the others priority at the next.

Hospitality:

  • SEPTEMBER — Provide refreshments for Kindergarten orientation and Back to School Night at EJ and LBI schools such as bottled water and prepackaged snacks such as pretzels, trail mix, crackers.

  • DECEMBER — Provide a $25 gift card for music and art teachers as a thank you for their effort on Holiday concerts.  We usually tried to present something at each school, even if it was just an additional card at one school as a token of appreciation.

  • SPRING — Provide a $25 gift card for same as above for Spring concerts at EJ and LBI schools.

  • JUNE — Provide a $25 gift certificate for each secretary as a thank you. Provide gifts for employees retiring from the district.

Clothing Drive:
Coordinate clothing drive 2x a year.  Create marketing materials; ensure coverage for the full day and extra people to load the truck at the end of the day.

Yearbook:
Coordinate all aspects of yearbook production, including class photos, individual photos, and event photos; family greetings/ messages; sales; and distribution.   PTA covers the expense for all graduating sixth graders.
